Hello HCA Students, Families & Friends!

First: good news! We stopped LD604 in its tracks! The bill was gutted in committee on Wednesday, and that is good. This keeps Maine charters protected by treating public charter school students the same as any other public school student. Many thanks to all of you who spoke up to your representatives in Augusta. Your voices made a difference – several of the legislators commented how powerful the testimonies and emails were. THANK YOU!!!

Second: bad news! Covid still poses a real threat to our communities – keep vigilant! As numbers climb again in Maine, a reminder about our school routines and requirements:

  • If your student gathers indoors with members of more than 1 other household, they should not return to in person learning until 10 full days after that.
  • If a student travels outside of New England (states other than CT, MA, NH, RI, VT) over break, they must quarantine 10 days upon their return.

Finally: surprising news! There are only 6 full weeks of school left when we return from break! The last day of school is Tuesday, June 8th, so graduation and summer are just round the corner. Keep your eyes open for updates about HCA’s summer academic and adventure programming after break. Finish strong!

With gratitude for all of you in the HCA community,

Scott
