This week, we watched an assault on the fabric of our society. We saw what happens when fundamental respect for our institutions, for our public servants, and for the peaceful resolution of conflict is cast aside. It has been a sad and unsettling few days.

We also watched systemic racism in ugly action. We saw how a violent mob of white people was treated with what looked almost like deference in comparison to how peaceful gatherings of black, brown and white protesters have been violently dispersed during the past months. It is hard to watch, but is also probably not surprising to the Americans of color who see the effects of racism on their lives and families every day.

HCA is committed to changing our world. We’ve got to do better.
