Nutrition
Every student has access to nutritious meals at school, ensuring their optimal health and well-being.
Harpswell Coastal Academy takes pride in using homemade recipes with fresh-cut fruits, vegetables and proteins that make meals fun and nutritious.
By using fresh ingredients and making meals from scratch, we give students the opportunity to try recipes that may be out of their comfort zone, yet made with familiar ingredients. Naturally, comfort meals such as pizza, taquitos, mac & cheese, salads and other standards are served in rotation.
When we get back to a “normal” school setting, we will once again offer students the opportunity to sign up for hands-on learning working in the kitchen with Mrs. Walker. These voluntary training sessions are a fun and educational way to learn the basics of how to cook. Students in this program:
- Help create menu plans
- Learn proper food storage and handling
- Understand the importance of personal hygiene
- Learn to measure ingredients and follow recipes
- Explore the science of how foods work together
For those interested, we expand lessons to include the dynamics of farm to table, restaurant management, service skills, budgeting and time management — all skills that support a first time job in hospitality.
If at any time your student is in need of remote lunches we offer a pick up at both campuses or a scheduled drop off to your home.
